The main protagonists in the upcoming Pinoy Pride XI: Philippines vs the World promised no less than a knockout when they collide tomorrow at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

In yesterday’s final press conference at the venue, WBO Intercontinental flyweight champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo and his opponent, former WBC and WBO Latino light flyweight champion Juan “Panterita” Esquer, engaged in a word war, with both promising a KO in less than five rounds.

“I hope he knocks me out,” said Melindo, “because if not, I will make him sorry and knock him out. He can only beat me in his dreams.”

“I have fought seven world champions, some of them robbed me of a win. I am just hoping that the judges will be fair since I am fighting in my opponent’s hometown. I will let all of you see how Milendo will fall down.”

“Patience makes me wait longer. It’s God’s will, I know that it will come soon.”

ALA Boxing Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said he hopes Melindo performs very well tomorrow so he gets a greater chance for a mandatory offer for a world title bout.

Meanwhile, WBO Oriental Featherweight champion Lorenzo “Thunder Volt” Villanueva and his opponent, Diego “Tyson” Ledesma, also promised a knockout victory in their 10-round non-title bout.

Mhar Jun “Astig” Macahilig feels no pressure as he faces Thai veteran Kaichon Sor Vorapin, who already beat 10 Filipino boxers including ALA Gym prize fighter Rocky Fuentes twice in 2004.

Joseph Von Minoza also promised to do his best to win against his first foreign opponent in Korean Featherweight champion Yoo Shin Kim.

Kim has defeated two Filipino boxers, including Siso Morales.

Also present during yesterday’s press conference were OPBF minimumweight champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo and his foe, Indonesian minimumweight champion Sofyan Effendi.
