CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The town of Minalin in Pampanga province has not logged a single case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since Oct. 18, making it the only Pampanga town that is free from the deadly virus.
It lost that status on June 24, recording 59 confirmed cases in almost five months of modified general community quarantine. At least 55 residents had recovered from the virus while four others had died.
The provincial health office confirmed that Minalin has no active cases among the 19 new patients that brought the total to 2,767 as of Monday.
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, continued to infect 546 people. At least 2,114 people have recovered from it while 107 others had died.
In a phone interview, Minalin Mayor Edgardo Flores said the town regained its virus-free status by complying with the orders of the national and provincial governments.
He also attributed it to residents who cooperated by wearing face masks and shields, staying at home, keeping distances, and reporting symptoms to barangay health workers.
