SWU, UC take lead in bracket A

In celebration of its 58th Founders Day, the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) is holding an 11-a-side and 7-a-side football festival at its campus in Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

DBTC coach Glenn Ramos said there is just the men’s open for the 11-a-side category, which was opened last Wednesday night. He said matches start at 6 p.m. because most of the players have work during the day.

The 11-a-side festival attracted 10 teams, divided into two brackets. Both brackets will have single round robin eliminations with the top two teams advancing to the crossover semifinals. The winners will contest the title.

After last Wednesday night’s eliminations, Southwestern University (SWU), manned by foreign students, and University of Cebu (UC) are leading bracket A with three wins apiece.

Bracket B is topped by Erco Men’s with three wins followed by Azco FC with two wins and a loss.

Last night, six more elimination matches were played to be followed by the semifinals.

Ramos said that he would like for the men’s open championship match to be played tomorrow but this would depend if the teams would agree.

The 7-a-side festival, on the other hand, will open at 6 p.m. tonight.

Categories are Boys 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, Ladies, Men’s Open, 38-Above and the inter-BPO.

Ramos clarified that players for teams competing in the inter-BPO should really be employed in a BPO company.

Since other schools have sent teams for the festival, Ramos said this is a great opportunity for non-varsity members of DBTC to see action.

DBTC is incorporating a specialized football program in its physical education classes.

To be fair, Ramos said that they have allowed each class to come up with their own team with at least two varsity members as part of their team.
