TACLOBAN CITY –– A former mayor of Palo town in Leyte died last Saturday due to complications caused by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Teodoro Sevilla, who served as mayor of Palo from 2006 to 2010, had a kidney problem and was confined in a private hospital in Tacloban.
Mayor Frances Ann Petilla said Sevilla tested positive for COVID-19 when he underwent a post-mortem examination.
Sevilla, a doctor by profession, was buried immediately as part of the protocol on managing a dead person due to COVID-19.
Petilla said tracing was made to identify Sevilla’s close contacts, including his immediate family and some of his patients.
As of Tuesday, Eastern Visayas has 5,893 total COVID-19 cases, according to the Department of Health.
On Tuesday, there were 77 new COVID-19 cases in the region.
