NDRRMC: 5 to 8 more storms expected to hit PH before end of 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines could expect up to eight more storms before the year ends, of which one or two could cause damage, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.

“Makakaasa pa tayo siguro, bago hanggang sa katapusan ng Disyembre na mga lima hanggang walo na bagyo,” NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jala said during an online Palace briefing.

(We can expect that before December ends, five to eight storms will hit the country.)

“Sa karanasan naman natin usually mayroong isa o dalawa sa mga bagyo na ito na maaaring makapaminsala nang husto o malakas,” he added.

(In our experience, usually there are one or two storms that could cause damage or could be strong.)

On Tuesday afternoon, Tropical Storm Pepito brought rain showers in many parts of the country with 13 areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 and 12 areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

The state weather bureau said Pepito may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.
