TUGUEGARAO CITY—At least 17 policemen in Enrile, a town in Cagayan province, have tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, prompting local officials to warn people of a return to stricter enhanced community quarantine.
The policemen’s infection was among 143 new COVID-19 cases in the province, local health data showed.
Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba described the numbers as “alarming,” warning residents against breaching health protocols that could force him to impose tougher measures.
In Enrile town, Mayor Miguel Decena Jr. has transferred the venue for distribution of travel passes and health certificates to the new public market after the town hall and police station recorded a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Decena has also ordered the extension of liquor ban until Nov. 5 as precaution.
