182 collared in 2-day anti-crime operations in Quezon

LUCENA CITY –– The two-day “simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operation” (Sacleo) in Quezon province led to the arrests of 182 suspected criminals and law violators, police said Monday.

Simultaneous operations in 39 towns and two cities from Oct. 17-18 resulted in the arrests of 13 suspected drug pushers and confiscation of shabu (crystal meth) worth P27,200 based on the estimate of the Dangerous Drugs Board, Police Colonel Audie Madrideo, Quezon police director, said in a report.

Police also arrested 31 wanted persons; 32 illegal gamblers; 17 illegal fishers; nine illegal coconut tree cutters; two illegal loggers, and 78 violators of municipal and city ordinances.

The arrested crime suspects were jailed, while the quarantine and ordinance violators paid fines and rendered community service. No jail time was imposed on them to avoid possible virus infection of other inmates, police said.

Sacleo replaced the police “one-time, big-time operation,” an all-out war against all local forms of criminalities in a given period.
