MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) over the east of southern Luzon may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was spotted 1,035 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes at 3 p.m.
“This weather disturbance is likely to further strengthen while moving generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea towards the northern portion of Luzon. As such, the LPA may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours,” Pagasa said in its weather advisory.
Pagasa advised disaster risk reduction and management offices, as well as the public, to monitor updates.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the trough of the LPA.
Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Bicol Region will also experience rain showers due to the northeasterly surface windflow.
Pagasa warned of possible floods or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains.
