MANILA, Philippines — Coronavirus caseload in the Philippines continues to rise as the Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday an additional 2,261 new patients, driving the nationwide tally to 348,698.
Some 48,040 of the total are tagged as “active” cases, which also increased from Wednesday’s count of 46,227.
DOH’s latest data further showed the recovery of 385 more patients as well as the death of 50 others, pushing sum recoveries and fatalities to 294,161 and 6,497, respectively.
The health agency also said that 84.6 percent of the cases are mild while 10.7 percent are asymptomatic as 3.2 percent are critical and the remaining 1.6 percent are severe.
Metro Manila is still the top region with the most number of newly-documented COVID-19 cases with 566, followed by Cavite with 174, Pangasinan with 145, Northern Samar with 104, and Quezon with 98.
DOH likewise reported adjustments in its COVID-19 statistics, saying it discovered and removed from the total 99 duplicates, of which 77 were recovered cases and two were deaths.
It further noted that seven cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were finally validated to be death cases.
