Navotas feeding program benefits 14 city barangays

/ 11:44 PM January 26, 2012

The yearend report of the Navotas City health department showed the success of the six-month feeding program spearheaded by Mayor John Reynald M. Tiangco in cooperation with the Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) and Barangay (village) Council, with a visible decrease in the number of malnourished children in the city, from 4.8 percent at the beginning of the year to 1.1 percent.

In the 2011 Department of Health report, 1,231 were observed to be underweight and malnourished.

Through the collective efforts of SK officials, barangay health workers and the City Social Welfare Development Office, the children were supplied with nutritious foods and vitamins for six months. The beneficiaries come from the city’s 14 barangays.

“We aim to reduce the malnourishment rate of our children down to zero by the end of 2012,” Tiangco said.
