MANILA, Philippines — Senior Deputy Speaker Doy Leachon said Wednesday that lawmakers aligned with Speaker Lord Allan Velasco would retake positions stripped from them during the speakership squabble.
Leachon said the removal of some of Velasco’s allies from key House positions was “unjust.”
“It was the will of the Speaker and the will of the majority that there was unjust removal and termination from the key posts basically for reason that they were not aligned during that time with the wishes of the previous leadership,” he said.
“It came to our knowledge that ‘yung mga nalagay rin, hindi nila alam na nailagay sila roon eh so we’re putting it back,” he added.
Among the speakership struggle casualties were 1-PACMAN Rep. Mikee Romero, Quezon 4th District Rep. Angelina Helen Tan, AAMBIS-OWA Partylist and Valenzuela City 2nd District Rep. Eric Martinez who lost their key House positions.
Romero was removed as Deputy Speaker, Tan was chairperson of the House committee on health, Garin was chairperson of the economic affairs panel, and Martinez was the chairperson of the committee on youth and sports development.
Romero and Tan were the first to take a whiff of redemption as they were re-elected to their posts.
Leachon said it was Velasco’s will and the majority to reinstall Romero and Tan to their previous posts. [ac]
