DAVAO CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines — The city government would reimpose curfew hours starting Oct. 15 as part of measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday signed Executive Order No. 55, requiring residents to stay home from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The curfew hours, along with the liquor ban, will be imposed until Dec. 31.
Exempted from the curfew are all government workers on duty, those working in private establishments whose work schedules coincide with curfew hours, doctors and veterinarians, workers of public utility companies, those in the fishing industry, people attending wakes of family members and those responding to medical, emergency and disaster cases.
Duterte cited the urgent need to regulate the movement of people because of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, which she attributed to the “innumerable allowed essential activities.”
On Sunday, the Department of Health reported 76 new cases in the Davao region, including 66 in the city.
