National ID system pre-registration starts in Pampanga capital

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– The national identification (ID) system law, which required a single ID linked to all IDs issued by the government, was piloted in this Pampanga capital through a pre-registration of 28,950 persons starting on Monday, Oct. 12, an official said.

Pampanga is one of the first 32 provinces where Republic Act 11055 (An Act Establishing the Philippine ID System) is being done first, according to Rimando Umali, this city’s civil registrar.

He said the pre-registration, which covered two persons per priority family, is expected to be finished in the city’s 35 villages. It was started in Barangay San Jose.

The pre-registration gathers personal information like full name, address, birth date, place of birth, said AJ Kevin Samson, provincial registration officer of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Residents are required to present PSA-issued birth certificates or any proof of identity. They are given an appointment for registration, while the national ID is issued in a week or two.

Nationwide, the pre-registration is beginning among five million low-income families identified in the “Listahanan” program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the PSA said.
