MANILA, Philippines — Poll watchdog Kontra Daya said officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) might be held accountable for allowing the proclamation of Duterte Youth nominee Ducielle Cardema.
Kontra Daya convener Danilo Arao said the Comelec officials who favored Cardema’s proclamation could even face impeachment.
“Comelec will be accountable for doing the unconstitutional as it is unconscionable and illogical,” Arao said.
When sought for comment, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said: “While Kontra Daya — and all interested parties in fact — is free to question the Comelec’s acts, in the proper venue, it is perhaps inadvisable to attempt to undermine the credibility of future elections simply because they disagree with the Comelec’s decision or with how Comelec commissioners are appointed.”
