Cayetano says session outside House ‘fake’
MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano labeled as “fake” the session being held by lawmakers outside the premises of the House of Representatives.
“Ang Celebrity Sports Club ay hindi naman Kongreso, it creates a disturbing precedent. Ngayon may fake session na ginagawa,” he said in a press conference.
Majority of lawmakers held a session on Monday at the Celebrity Sports Complex in Quezon City where they elected new House officials, particularly the Secretary General and Sergeant-at-Arms.
At the beginning of the session, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, citing the Constitution and rules of the lower chamber, pointed out that a majority of House members, constituting a quorum, can resume the session.
Rodriguez also said that a majority of members in attendance can also hold sessions outside the regularly designated session halls pursuant to the Constitution.
