Quezon records highest COVID-19 single day tally with 88 new cases

LUCENA CITY – Quezon province recorded 88 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday, its highest single-day tally since the pandemic broke out early March.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in its 5 p.m. bulletin showed that Quezon’s capital Lucena City posted the highest with 27 new cases.

The IPHO also disclosed that three COVID-19 fatalities were recorded in the towns of Atimonan, Sariaya and Tayabas City. No details were provided on the latest fatalities.

Quezon, which is still under modified general community quarantine, has recorded 2,614 COVID-19 cases and at least 619 of them contracted the virus from October 1 to 11. The figure reflected a huge spike compared to recorded cases of 874 last month (September).

The death toll in the province rose to 85, and 19 of them died from October 1 to 11.

Quezon has 906 suspected virus carriers in medical facilities and 306 suspects under home quarantine.

The province recorded 1,623 recoveries.

OCTA Research—composed of independent researchers from the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas and Providence College in the United States tagged Quezon along with Metro Manila and 16 other provinces as “high risk” areas due to the continued rise of cases for the past two weeks.
