MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area off Palawan and the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga on Friday.
In its weather forecast issued at 4 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last spotted 310 kilometers west-northwest of Coron, Palawan.
Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz said the weather bureau is not discounting the possibility that the LPA may develop into a tropical depression.
“Ang magandang balita, sa ating analysis ay posible na kapag naging bagyo na ito ay papalabas na ito ng PAR (Philippine area of responsibility) o nasa labas na ng ating area of responsibility,” she said.
(The good news is based on our analysis, the LPA may already be moving away from PAR or is already outside our area of responsibility when it becomes a tropical depression.)
For the weather forecast in other areas, Pagasa’s forecast showed partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms will be experienced in Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeasterly surface wind flow.
Meanwhile, the eye of typhoon Chan-hom outside PAR was last seen 1,585 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near its eye and gustiness of up to 160 kph and is moving northwestward at 15 kph.
“Napakalayo nito sa ating landmass. Mababa ang tsansa na pumasok ito ng PAR at sa ngayon ay wala pong significant effect sa anumang bahagi ng ating kalupaan,” Dela Cruz said, adding that the typhoon may hit the landmass or southern coast of Japan.
