Pasig River ferry resumes after closure

The Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS) resumed operations on Thursday after a few days of closure due to water hyacinths.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the service would operate from Pinagbuhatan in Pasig to Sta. Ana in Manila.

The service was closed after a large number of water hyacinths threatened the ferries.

MMDA Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said the MMDA harvests an average of 150 cubic meters of water hyacinths daily, equivalent to five to seven trucks, using a trash skimmer.

The PRFS, the only water-based transportation in Metro Manila, has 11 stations. —MARIEJO S. RAMOS
