PNP wants barangay ordinances vs karaoke singing, noisy activities

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will ask barangay officials to issue ordinances against noisy activities such as karaoke singing as this could distract those who are trying to study and work at home.

PNP chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan on Monday said the police force would coordinate with barangays in maintaining peace and quiet in their areas as many are forced to stay at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We will be asking the barangay to have a resolution regarding the use of this noisy equipment [karaoke]. Barangay ordinances will be in place and we will coordinate with them,” he said in a press briefing in Camp Crame.

The PNP will likewise put up barangay assistance centers to bring up law enforcement in barangays to be manned by at least two police officers.

“Everything will be coordinated with police stations. Kung may problema na malalaki, diyan sila tatawag. They will have direct contact with operational units in the area,” Cascolan said.
