MANILA, Philippines — Minors will still be prohibited from going to internet cafes even as classes start on Oct. 5, the Philippine National Police said on Thursday.
“We understand that a number of elementary and high school students in the public schools do not have computers, laptops and other gadgets for the opening of classes so there maybe some of them who would go to the internet shops for their online classes for the use of computers and to avail internet connections,” Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.
But he reminded internet shop owners that minors should not be allowed to enter in accordance of the guidelines set by the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases).
Internet shops were among the business establishments allowed to reopen in September as restrictions were eased to revive the economy. —Nestor Corrales
