BACOLOD CITY—The father of Commissioner Rowena Guanzon of the Commission on Elections died of gastro intestinal bleeding on Thursday (Oct. 1).
Retired Negros Occidental Judge Sixto Guanzon died just about two months after his wife, former Negros Occidental Board Member Elvira Guanzon, died last July 11.
Both were 95 years old.
Judge Guanzon was recipient of the US Congressional Gold Medal for heroism during World War II.
He graduated summa cum laude from Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, in 1948 and cum laude from the Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law 1952.
His body lies in state at the Acropolis Gardens in Bacolod City and would be cremated on Saturday (Oct. 3).
His remains will be brought to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental early on Sunday (Oct. 4) and buried at the Kabankalan Public Cemetery around 3 p.m., according to Commissioner Guanzon.
He is survived by sons Dr. Mateo Guanzon III, Board Member Sixto Guanzon Jr., Dr.Casten Guanzon, Dr. Jeffry Gaunzon and Pengar Guanzon, and daughters Judge Frances Guanzon, Dr. Ma.Luz Vicenta Guanzon and the Comelec commissioner.
