MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City local government unit has provided an On The Go (OTG) flash drive to students for their blended learning as the scheduled opening of classes for public schools approaches.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, in an event in Washington Sycip Park in Legaspi Village on Wednesday, demonstrated to the media how the flash drive will work.
The flash drive contains digitized self-directed modules and video broadcast editions and can be used in cellphones, laptops, desktop computers, tablets, and smart televisions.
“The OTG flash drive is part of the Learner’s Package provided by the city to all public school students in Makati, from preschool to senior high school. It is one of the primary tools we came up with to ensure that no student will be left behind as we go through the new normal in education,” Binay said.
The LGU started distributing the learner’s package to the city’s 85,000 public school students—from preschool to senior high school—in early September.
Aside from an OTG flash drive, the package also contains a printed module, a parent’s journal, and two washable face masks.
Aside from this, BInay also presented the city’s Learning Continuity Plan for school year 2020-2021, which “addresses both the common and unique needs and concerns of students arising from the adoption of the blended learning approach consisting of online and modular distance learning modalities.”
“The plan deals with issues such as limited access to gadgets and internet connectivity. It contains ways and means to ensure continuous learning while keeping our students and teachers safe from COVID-19 infection,” Binay said.
Previously, the Makati LGU assured that the city’s 2,500 public school teachers will be provided with laptops to be used for distance learning.
