MANILA, Philippines — Four more Filipinos in the Middle East died of COVID-19 over the weekend, raising the death toll among Filipinos overseas to at least 790.
Nearly 3,000 other Filipinos abroad are still afflicted with the disease, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The vast majority of deaths and confirmed cases among Filipinos overseas occurred in the Middle East, which hosts around 2 million overseas Filipino workers.
Nine months into the pandemic, 10,433 Filipinos in 78 countries have been infected with the new coronavirus. Around 60 percent have already recovered, 790 have died while 2,989 Filipinos are still undergoing treatment.
