MANILA, Philippines – Internal Revenue Comissioner Kim Henares took the witness stand on Wednesday in the ongoing impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Private prosecutor Arthur Lim said Henares’ testimony would show that Corona acquired properties which were not justified by his income.

The BIR chief, Lim said, would also show how Corona tried to hide some properties in the names of his children.

Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, who is presiding over the trial, allowed Henares to take the witness stand “only to authenticate” the tax documents of Corona and his family.

The impeachment court ruled that the testimony of the BIR chief would only be accepted if the tax documents  that she would present have any connection with the impeachment case against Corona.
