TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 103 persons were infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 4,366 on Thursday.
Despite the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the region, Dr. Minerva Molon, director of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8), said she had yet to receive any request from any local government unit for them to be placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
The region is under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), while Tacloban City, its regional center, is under general community quarantine.
“If our people continue to cooperate with us, that would be better,” Molon said.
In Catbalogan City, Samar, Mayor Dexter Uy said at least two barangays would be put under localized ECQ due to its rising number of COVID-19 cases.
These are the villages of Barangays 7 and 11, which have 15 and 12 COVID-19 cases, respectively.
The other villages in the city, which are under ECQ are the villages of Mercedes (which has seven patients), Canlapwas (six), and Maulong (35).
