SANTA ROSA, NUEVA ECIJA –– The local government has ordered the temporary closure of both public and private cemeteries in this town during “Undas” or All Saints’ and All Souls’ days.

In an executive order, Mayor Josefino Angeles said cemeteries and columbaries in this municipality would be closed between Oct. 29 and Nov. 4 to prevent transmission of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Angeles said physical distancing measures would be difficult to impose on the areas due to the anticipated crowds during these days.

He said those who would visit or clean cemeteries from Sept. 17 to Nov. 15 or on dates outside the prescribed temporary closure would have to wear face masks and face shields, and strictly observe physical distancing. Elderlies and children will be allowed to visit the cemeteries during these dates.

Interments will also be allowed between Oct. 29 to Nov. 5 while the cemeteries are closed, but funeral marches are prohibited.
