BANGKOK — The Thai Cabinet has approved a one-year extension of a scheme to help underprivileged people with their electricity and tap water bills in this Covid-19 situation, government deputy spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek said in a Facebook post yesterday (September 22).
The scheme will be extended from October 2020 to September 2021.
“This measure is expected to help 13.9 million holders of state welfare cards nationwide, or approximately 8 million households. However, each household is entitled to the subsidy each month on one power bill and one water bill only,” she said.
Electricity fees are being waived for households that use less than 50 units per month. If it’s over 50 units, the state welfare card covers up to Bt230 (P354) of the bill per household. Any exceeding amount has to be paid by households.
The state welfare card also covers Bt100 (P154) of tap water bills per household per month.
