TWO days before Christmas, residents in the mountain barangay of Busay in Cebu City enjoyed the water supply from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).
Busay barangay captain Eliodoro Sanchez, MCWD General Manager Armando Paredes and other MCWD officials attended the ceremonial opening of the water supply on Dec. 23 at 11 a.m.
Sanchez said they have been waiting for 20 years for steady water supply. He said that before, residents had to wake up at dawn to store water.
His barangay is considered a “thirsty area.”
He said they have small water system but could not sustain the needs of his constituents.
His barangay has a population of around 10,000.
Paredes said before, MCWD only supplied 1,600 cubic meters of water a day to the residents of Maracas, Nivel, PBN and Plaza Housing and water supply was distributed through rationing. Now, with the two booster pumps, the supply for these areas is doubled and concessionaires will get a stable water supply round-the-clock.
The present pumps used were reconditioned. But next month, these will be replaced with two brand-new pumps to ensure efficient operation. With the development, MCWD can now accommodate around 700 new water connections.
MCWD also bought a lot in barangay Busay for a construction of a reservoir to further improve the water supply in the area.
