TACLOBAN CITY – At least 64 policemen in Eastern Visayas have tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since last March.
A total of 33 have recovered, said Lt. Col. Maria Bella Rentuaya, information officer of the Eastern Visayas police.
All patients were housed at the isolation facilities of their respective local government units.
The infected police officers were asymptomatic and were being closely monitored by the regional police headquarters based in Palo town, Leyte province.
On Monday, Sept.21, the police station in Catbalogan City, Samar was temporarily closed for decontamination after one of its men tested positive for COVID-19.
Issuances of police clearance will resume on Wednesday, Sept.23.
The Department of Health (DOH) reported 29 new COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas, raising the region’s number of infections to 4,167.
The new cases are from Leyte with 17 new patients; Southern Leyte, nine; and Samar with three.
