Sinanduloy returns to old Cebu

/ 06:30 AM January 25, 2012

Defending champion of the Sinulog-based category Tribu Sinanduloy of Tangub, Misamis Occidental, had Cebuano history and faith as its theme for this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade. It was a return to what the group is known for, the portrayal of historical Cebu.

Props transformed the stage into pre-war downtown Cebu  and featured a large ship named SS Corregidor. The group’s performance paid tribute to hardworking Cebuanos whose entrepreneurship skills contributed to the city’s progress, with the Sto. Niño as the source of guidance and inspiration.

Dancers wore Filipiniana costume—off-white barong and kimona with a shawl whose ends were pinned at together with a red rose. Each dancer carried two  glowing candles.

A large  golden bell was also a spectacle during the group’s street dancing. Some spectators took delight in ringing the bell.
Unlike the group’s solemn performance last year, this year was joyous and light. Tribu Sinanduloy finished second in this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade.

From 2002 to 2011, years 2004 and 2008  were the only  times Tribu Sinanduloy came in second in the Sinulog-based category, while it was grand winner in the Free Interpretation category in 2000 and 2001.
