Dagupan imposes liquor ban anew amid rising COVID-19 cases

DAGUPAN CITY –– The city government again banned the selling and drinking of alcoholic beverages starting midnight on Friday to curb the rising cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mayor Brian Lim on Thursday issued an executive order for the liquor ban as the active COVID-19 cases here rose to 69.

Residents here were prohibited from serving and consuming alcoholic drinks in public and private establishments or even in private but open premises, which are in public view.

Lim said local health officials already recorded a local transmission of the disease, which spreads quickly in public markets and among front-line workers.

The city government has also asked the banks here to test their employees every two weeks as a precaution against COVID-19.
