Vizcaya town market closed for 5 days after 9 vendors test positive for coronavirus

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—Mayor Ralph Lantion on Thursday (Sept. 17) ordered a five-day lockdown of the town’s public market after nine vendors there tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The market’s temporary closure will start on Friday (Sept. 18) to give way to disinfection and contact tracing, Lantion said in an executive order.

The nine vendors were among 21 market workers who were tested last Sept. 12.

As of Thursday, the Nueva Vizcaya provincial health office has recorded 353 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 134 recoveries and 10 fatalities.

The latest cases included that of a 7-year-old girl in Bayombong town who contracted the virus from her mother.

Three 11-year-old children also tested positive for the virus after they had been exposed to relatives who had gotten sick.
