A man allegedly used a sword to kill his wife after they had a verbal altercation inside their home in Florida in the United States, according to police.

Mark William Thibault, 53, confessed to killing 56-year-old wife, Rachel Thibault, earlier this week, as per ABC affiliate WPLG yesterday, Sept. 16.

Thibault’s relative, whose name was withheld, reported to police last Tuesday, Sept. 15, that Thibault confessed to him about killing his wife.

Thibault allegedly told the relative that he had a verbal fight with his wife that escalated into a physical one, confessing that he struck Rachel’s head against a bathtub before stabbing her with a sword.

Police then came to Thibault’s residence in Homestead on the same day. Thibault was said to have immediately told police when they arrived, “I had a horrible night. I’ve been in a fight with someone who I thought was my wife.”

Even though in Thibault’s supposed confession he said he used a sword, police were only able to recover a handgun from the scene.

Thibault has since been taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was being held on a second-degree murder charge. Ian Biong /ra
