TACLOBAN CITY –– At least seven more persons died of the coronavirus in Eastern Visayas, bringing the death toll to 40.
Dr. Minerva Molon, the regional director of the Department of Health (DOH), said the seven fatalities died from September 10 to 15.
The oldest fatality was a 93-year-old woman from Tacloban City, who died last Sept.11, while the youngest were two 51-year-old women from Catbalogan City in Samar and Babatngon town in Leyte.
Both died on September 10.
The other fatalities are a 71-year-old woman, who died on Sept.12; a 66-year-old man, who died on Sept.11; a 66-year-old man, and a 56-year-old man, who both died on Sept.15.
The region currently has 3,957 COVID-19 cases.
The 70 new cases came from Leyte with 36; Samar, 29; Northern Samar, 6; and one from Southern Leyte.
The town of Lapinig in Northern Samar posted its first COVID-19 case involving a 32-year-old woman.
In Catarman, also in Northern Samar, a 29-year-old man, who works at the provincial health office, is the latest person from the town to have acquired COVID-19.
