MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and media rights groups yesterday condemned the killing of Sorsogon broadcaster Jobert Bercasio on Monday.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists also urged authorities to hasten its probe into the killing of Bercasio, who was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in Sorsogon City, just 100 meters away from the Sorsogon police station.
If the killing proves to be work-related, the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines said he would be the 17th journalist to be killed in the line of duty under the Duterte administration, and the 189th since 1986.
