4 dead in Air Force rescue chopper crash in Basilan

MANILA, Philippines — Four persons were killed after a white rescue helicopter of the Philippine Air Force crashed at Lantawan, Basilan on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

In a phone interview with INQUIRER.net, Police Lt. Richelle Perez, chief of the Lantawan Municipal police station, said the crash happened between 1 p.m. and 1:10 p.m.

Perez said they have yet to identify the victims as the bodies are charred.

“Wala pa identity, sunog po yung mga katawan, ( We have no identity of the charred bodies),” Perez said.

Members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives are now at the crash site to conduct an investigation, Perez said.

Perez said they expect to meet with the Philippine Airforce on Thursday to help in the investigation.

The Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in Basilan also shared photos of the crash site on their Facebook page.
