Cascolan cancels ‘midnight appointment’ made by ex-PNP chief Gamboa

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan on Wednesday said he had canceled a “midnight appointment” made by his predecessor, retired Gen. Archie Gamboa.

“I had to cancel an appointment by the former chief PNP, it was a midnight appointment,” Cascolan said in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel.

Without disclosing the name of the police official, Cascolan said the official was supposed to be transferred from the PNP’s Directorate for Comptrollership to the PNP Health Service.

Cascolan also said Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr., who formerly headed the PNP Health Service and was later moved to the PNP’s Finance Service on Gamboa’s order, had been transferred as a deputy at the PNP’s DICTM (Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management).

“I had to place him as a deputy at the DICTM [Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management],” he said, referring to Tadeo.

Cascolan admitted it was “hard to reshuffle” when looking for a person for the right position.

“There are a lot more officers too that deserve to be promoted or deserve to have the position,” he said.
