67 new COVID-19 cases bring total in Eastern Visayas to 3,826

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 67 fresh cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Eastern Visayas, bringing its total number of infections to 3,826.

Of the new cases, 27 are from Leyte; 23 from Samar; 15 from Southern Leyte; and two from Northern Samar.

The majority of the new cases in the region are close contacts of former COVID-19 patients.

The Department of Health in the region appealed to the local governments to have more quarantine or isolation facilities.

In Tacloban City, close contacts of COVID-19 patients have been quarantined in some hotels or facilities earlier identified as evacuation centers.

The local government has also built quarantine or isolation facilities in the northern portion of the city.

The regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways has reported that 17 quarantine or isolation facilities, with a combined bed capacity of 800, have been constructed in the different parts of the region.
