CITY OF CALAPAN — Three teenagers and 19 inmates at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail (OMPJ) are among the 23 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive cases in this city, the City Health and Sanitation Department reported on Sunday.
The youngsters, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, are both from Barangay (village) Ibaba East, while the third patient is a 17-year-old boy from Barangay Guinobatan. All were contacts of an earlier COVID-19 positive patient.
A 40-year-old hospital personnel also tested positive of the virus. The female patient was swabbed in this city when she showed symptoms before she returned home to Taguig City.
Nineteen inmates at the OMPJ also tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total of inmates infected to 44.
Meanwhile, there were 34 recoveries, all inmates, who first tested COVID-19 positive. They were isolated at the new and bigger provincial jail in Bansud town.
As of 3 p.m. Sunday, September 13, the city has a total of 254 confirmed cases, with 88 active cases, 163 recoveries, and three deaths.
