Construction of Makati columbarium with free cremation services starts October
MANILA, Philippines — Makati City government on Saturday announced that the construction of its columbarium, which will offer free cremation and inurnment services, will start next month.
The columbarium, which will be established at the old site of the Makati Catholic Cemetery, will also solve the shortage of internment space in the city.
“Through this project, the bereaved family of Makatizens need not worry anymore about expensive funeral services, and we will adequately address the need for more burial space within the city,” Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement.
“By offering free cremation and inurnment services at the Columbarium, we will ensure that all Makatizens, regardless of economic stature, will have a dignified burial,” she added.
The city engineering department said the columbarium will have a chapel, cremation area and 14,784 urn vaults.
