TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 68 more individuals tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas on Thursday, bringing its total number of infections to 3,634.
Among the new cases is a 29-year-old man from the town of Palapag in Northern Samar which posted its first COVID-19 case.
Town Mayor Manuel Aoyang has placed Barangay Mapno, where the man lives, under a 48-hour lockdown while contact tracing is done.
The lockdown started on Thursday and will end on Saturday night.
Residents from other villages of the town are prohibited from visiting Mapno.
Of the 68 new cases in the region, 46 were from Leyte; 12 from Samar; seven from Southern Leyte; two from Northern Samar; and one from Eastern Samar.
