Man, 52, is Cotabato City’s 1st COVID-19 fatality

COTABATO CITY—A 52-year-old man died of COVID-19 late on Tuesday (Sept. 8) here, becoming the city’s first pandemic fatality.

Dr. Meyasser Patadon, Cotabato City health chief, said the male patient contracted two diseases at the same time (comorbidity), which increased the mortality rate of COVID-19 for him.

He was confined at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center and was said to have been exposed to another person infected with SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

On Wednesday (Sept. 9), Patadon said a 34-year-old woman, who returned from Manila, was the latest to be recorded on the city’s list of COVID-19 patients, bringing the total cases to 84.

Cotabato Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi had noted that virus transmission in the city occurred in communities and work places, linking it to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

She said people lacked cooperation in heeding health protocols.
