MANILA, Philippines — The Robonurse will be deployed inside the mega quarantine facility in Taguig City to assist in taking care of patients infected with coronavirus disease as well as protect health workers from the virus.
In a statement on Wednesday, Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano explained that the robot nurses will be controlled by the health workers to carry the vitamins or other essentials of COVID-19 patients.
“Amid the pandemic, Taguig has also shown that it is unafraid of technology. This time, to minimize the hazards for our health workers, we will be deploying our ‘Robonurses.’ These robots will physically carry medications and other supplies to COVID-19 patients while the nurses look on from the monitor at the head of the robot,” Cayetano said.
Taguig Public Information officer Mau Brizuela told Inquirer that the Robonurse will cater to patients inside the Taguig City Lakeshore Hotel Mega Quarantine Facility, which has 500 COVID-19 beds. The isolation facility is expected to fully operate within three months.
Robonurse is created by the Taguig Robotics Team, the group of students that created robots used for the online graduation of public school students in the city.
Taguig City now has a total of five quarantine facilities to house coronavirus disease patients.
As of Wednesday, Taguig logged a total of 5,667 COVID-19 cases, including 5,024 recoveries and 50 deaths. [ac]
