Ridge of high pressure area sustains hot weather in Luzon — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A ridge of a high-pressure area east of the country is seen to keep days in Luzon warm and humid in the next few days, state meteorologists said on Tuesday.

Weather forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) as of 5:00 p.m. showed that few cloud bands are forming near Northern and Central Luzon, which means that rains may be hard to come by.

However, for Visayas and Mindanao, clouds surrounding the islands’ provinces may bring occasional rains and thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.

“Wala po tayong binabantayan ngayon na low pressure area o sama ng panahon na posibleng maka-apekto sa ating bansa in the next two to three days, at ridge of high pressure area nga po ang nakaka-apekto sa may Hilaga at Gitnang Luzon,” weather specialist Ana Clauren said.

(We are not monitoring any low-pressure area or weather disturbance which may possibly affect the country in the next two to three days.  Only the ridge of high-pressure area is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.)

“May mga kaulapan dito sa may area ng Visayas at some parts of Mindanao, magdudulot po ito ng mga panandaliang buhos ng mga pag-ulan ngayong hapon at ngayong gabi, ito po ay dulot ng mga localized thunderstorms,” she added.

(Cloud bands were seen in the area of the Visayas and some parts of Mindanao, which would bring sporadic rain showers this afternoon and night, which will be caused by localized thunderstorms.)

Due to the ridge, temperatures in Metro Manila and Puerto Princesa may play around 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, while Tuguegarao and Legazpi’s daytime temperatures may surge up to 34 degrees.

In Visayas and Mindanao, temperatures on the eastern side like Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro may only reach as high 31 degrees Celsius as rains may affect these areas.  Cebu and Davao on the other hand may register around 25 to 32 degrees. [ac]
