MANILA, Philippines — The nationwide COVID-19 count reached over 240,000 as the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported logging 3,281 new infections.
The latest data from the DOH showed that there are now 241,987 new coronavirus cases in the country but only 52,893 of which are considered “active”.
The majority, or 88.6 percent of active cases, are considered mild cases while 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, according to DOH, which added that critical cases are at 1.9 percent as severe cases account to 1.3 percent of the total active cases.
Metro Manila has the most number of new cases with 1,420, trailed by Cavite with 263, Negros Occidental with 204, Laguna with 197, and Rizal with 196, the health agency noted.
DOH also reported the recovery of another 286 sickened individuals as well as the death of 26 more patients. Total recoveries nationwide are at 185,178 as of September 8 while the death toll hit 3,916.
Additionally, DOH said it again adjusted its COVID-19 statistics when it discovered and removed 21 duplicates from the sum tally, including seven recovered cases.
DOH explained the seven cases that were reported as recoveries were later validated as deaths.
