THE City Council is urging Cebu City government to regulate the use of the the parking area of Plaza Sugbu to leave enough spaces for guests and visiting tourists.
Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young said the city should either charge the use of the parking spaces or cordon off the area to prevent unauthorized parking.
“There is no one supervising the parking bays in Plaza Sugbu,” he said.
However, Young said that since Plaza Sugbu is under the Office of the Mayor, the decision on the matter should come from Mayor Michael Rama.
The council discussed the Plaza Sugbu parking concerns during their session on Wednesday.
Cecil Sa-a, branch manager of Blue Horizons Travel and Tours Inc., wrote the council through Councilor Margot Osmeña requesting for police assistance and the use amenities at the Plaza Sugbu, which her travel agency identified as one of the stops of the tours that they are organizing.
Aside from parking bays, Sa-a also requested for “proper sanitation” at the Magellan’s Cross area.
Sa-a said her travel agency is bringing to Cebu City tourists on board cruise ships MV Spirit of Adventure and MV Princess Danae, which will arrive in the city on Feb. 14 and April 1 respectively.
Young said he is saddened that Plaza Sugbu’s parking bays are now being used for free by occupants of nearby establishments.
The council also asked the city traffic management office and the City Planning Office to look into this concern.
Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa said Sa-a’s request regarding proper sanitation will be referred to the Department of Public Services. Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
