Ilocos regional cop office on lockdown again after more personnel contract COVID-19

SAN FERNANDO CITY –– The Ilocos regional police headquarters here was again placed on lockdown starting Monday while waiting for results of the swab tests conducted on its personnel believed to be exposed to a patient infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Police Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Santos Azurin Jr, the regional police director, said there were 21 active COVID-29 cases in the headquarters, with 31 of them awaiting swab test results while 103 others have tested negative for the virus.

Azurin said the number of police in the region’s four provinces has reached 56, but 31 had recovered, and no one had died since the pandemic began.

The increase in the number of the virus-infected police personnel is attributed to the mass real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or RT-PCR tests done on them.

The police camp was first placed on lockdown in July after three police applicants contracted the virus.
