MANILA, Philippines — Interior chief Eduardo Año, who tested positive twice for coronavirus, has fully recovered from COVID-19, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Tuesday.

“The Secretary tested negative for COVID-19 last September 2 and has fully recovered from the disease. We thank the public for your prayers and expressions of support to Secretary Año,” DILG Undersecretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya said in a statement.

Malaya also revealed that doctors said Año is already “fit to work and reassume duties as head of the agency.”

Previously, Malaya said Año, vice-chair of National Task Force on COVID-19 response, tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, causative agent of COVID-19, but is still experiencing symptoms such as cough.

The DILG chief first contracted the virus last March 3. He recovered after testing negative in his swaba test last April 12.

He was infected with the respiratory disease last Aug. 15.
