MANILA, Philippines — Rains experienced in Metro Manila and other parts of the country were caused by isolated thunderstorms, as state meteorologists said that they are monitoring no weather disturbance as of Monday afternoon.
Weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that on the other hand, rainfall in huge parts of Visayas and Mindanao was caused by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Rains may persist until evening, but these would not be continuous and would only last for a brief period of time.
“Dito naman sa nalalabing bahagi ng Visayas, gayon na rin sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon ay mga panandaliang buhos ng pag-ulan lamang po ‘yong ating nararanasan, ito ay dulot lamang ng mga localized thunderstorms,” weather specialist Ana Clauren said.
(For the remaining parts of Visayas, including a huge part of Luzon, people would experience sporadic and short rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.)
“Wala po tayong binabantayan ngayon na anumang sama ng panahon o low pressure area na posibleng maka-apekto sa ating bansa,” she added.
(We are not monitoring any weather disturbance or low-pressure area that may affect the country’s weather system.)
Pagasa said that cloudy skies and occasional rains would be still be experienced on Tuesday in Palawan, along with Visayas and Mindanao provinces due to the ITCZ. In Luzon including Metro Manila, generally fair weather is expected although isolated rains due to thunderstorms are still possible in the afternoon and night.
Expected temperatures in Metro Manila and Puerto Princesa range from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, while it may reach to as high as 34 degrees in Tuguegarao, whereas Baguio would be slightly warmer as it can register between 17 to 26 degrees.
Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao towns may see a decrease in temperature due to the cloudy skies, peaking to just 32 degrees Celsius in Cebu, Tacloban, and Iloilo, while Davao may feel temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees, and for Cagayan de Oro, 23 to 31 degrees.
Despite the rains, Pagasa’s forecasts show that weather in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon would continue to be warm and humid for the rest of the week. Cebu and Davao meanwhile, may see rains for the most part of the week.
