DIGOS CITY –– The provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) in Davao Occidental has confirmed that the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that jolted the southern part of Mindanao close to midnight of September 6 did not bring damage to the city’s infrastructure nor caused any disruption to people’s lives.
Harry Chester Firman Camoro, PDRRMO action officer, told the Inquirer in a private message that all five towns of Davao Occidental did not monitor any damage, casualty, nor injury from Sunday’s strong earthquake.
Camoro said it could have been the depth of the quake’s origin or its epicenter which was at sea that made the difference.
The epicenter of the 6.4-magnitude quake was traced 40 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino town, Davao Occidental, with a depth of focus of 149 kilometers.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) also clarified in its bulletin that there was no tsunami threat following the quake.
But Camoro encouraged people of Davao Occidental, especially those living along the coastal villages, to be vigilant at all times. “Be prepared to evacuate, if necessary, when there are signs of a tsunami, following an earthquake,” he said.
Don Marcelino town disaster risk reduction and management action officer July Marie Doria also said despite their proximity to the quake’s epicenter, the town did not register any damage or even landslide from last night’s quake.
